This questionnaire aims to support a comparative study on the role of parliaments in overseeing military expenditure, highlighting potential challenges, tools and good practices, as well as suggestions for improving parliamentary oversight. It is designed for members of parliament and their staff to assess their national context, identify institutional strengths and vulnerabilities, and contribute to an informed dialogue to foster transparency, accountability and democratic control. As such, the wider goal of the questionnaire is to facilitate the exchange of good parliamentary oversight practices of defence spending, and to learn from addressing specific challenges in order to improve oversight. This questionnaire is structured around challenges, tools, good practices and suggestions for the way forward.
