Housing & Drugs research

What is this survey?

Everybody has a right to housing, but it can be difficult for people who use drugs to access housing and homelessness services. A team of researchers at Release, a harm reduction charity, are trying to understand what these challenges are and what needs to change. We want to make housing and homelessness services work better for people who use drugs. You can help us by telling us about your experiences of using these services.

Release is a charity that supports people who use drugs with issues to do with housing, benefits, harm reduction and/or treatment. For more information see www.release.org.uk.

We want to hear from you if:

  • You use drugs regularly, or used to do so in the past three year

  • You are experiencing homelessness or did so in the last three years.
We define homelessness as the lack of secure and stable accommodation. This includes people who are sofa-surfing, using hostels and night shelters, living in temporary or supported accommodation, are sleeping rough, and others.

  • You live in Cardiff, Belfast, or Tower Hamlets (London)

You are over the age of 18

The survey is anonymous, meaning your answers will be treated confidentially and nobody will be able to identify you in the research report. You do not need to give us your real name.

The survey takes between 10 to 20 minutes and asks you about

  1. your experiences of homelessness support from the council/Housing Executive (in Northern Ireland)
  2. any experiences of exclusion from homelessness services
  3. your interactions with housing and homelessness staff
There is no incentive or payment for taking this survey. At the end of the survey you can leave contact details if you would like be contacted for a paid interview.
