Disrupting Exploitation Reflective Assessment

This assessment aims to complement the existing Home Office Disruption Toolkit by supporting multi-agency partners to reflect on and assess their own disruption practice. The assessment has been developed following a literature review of relevant legislation and guidance and has been informed by the analysis of a national survey and interviews conducted with experts in child criminal exploitation and disruption, across law enforcement, social care, health and the voluntary sector.

Importantly, the focus of this assessment is on the disruption of adult perpetrators of exploitation and not the intervention of young people who have been exploited.

How this resource can be used?

The Children’s Society reflective assessment was created to assist multi-agency partnerships in reflecting on how well they are disrupting child exploitation. The reflective assessment can be completed by the partnership or can be facilitated by the prevention programme.

A glossary has been provided to assist in completing the assessment. The term multi-agency partnership means a group of professionals from a geographical area, either strategic or operational who work in preventing or safeguarding from exploitation.

The assessment questions have been designed following a literature review, survey responses from professionals across England and Wales and semi structured interviews with national leads in disrupting exploitation.

The questions should be answered as a collective response from all partners. An example of this might be if one organisation states that they received adequate training and another states they don’t, the assessment scoring should be an average.

It is recommended that summary notes are made of the conversation which leads to a scoring answer so you can return to these reflections after receiving the scoring. A text box has been provided after each question to do this.

Assessment Scoring

The assessment consists of 33 questions which are split into 8 sections as displayed in the scoring summary below.

Each question answer will give you a score out of 4 and at the end of each section you will have a total score for that section and percentage score, followed by a total score at the end.

On completion of the assessment, a report will be sent with the scores and the discussion summary with each question.
