Who can apply?

Anyone aged between 14 and 24
who lives, works, or is educated in Hampshire, or the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth or Southampton
is enthusiastic
wants to take part, and is willing to make time to be involved

When do I need to get my application in by?
Deadline for applications is 1st March 2025

How do I apply?
Complete this online form and submit. Alternatively, we know not everyone prefers expressing themselves through writing, therefore, you can send us a video as your application - we ask that in your video you verbally answer the questions which are in the online form. Please send your video to opcc.comms@hampshire.police.uk

What happens next?
Shortlisted applicants will be notified and invited to a virtual taster session as the final part of the process

22nd March 10am - 3pm, Fareham - Induction
26th April 10am - 3pm, Portsmouth - UNLOC training
21st May 6:30pm - 8pm – Online session
15th Nov 10am - 3pm – Face to Face meeting

There will be plenty more opportunities to get involved but these are the key dates where attendance is compulsory, please. IF there is a date that you really cant do, we will always do our best to accommodate but please try your best to attend these. The more you put in, the more you get out!

More about the Youth Commission
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Youth Commission aims to make young people part of the solution to tackling crime and improving policing, rather than being seen as part of the problem.

As a member of the Youth Commission you will support, challenge and inform the Police and Crime Commissioner. You will also make a difference to young people by working with others to deliver projects that tackle the police and crime issues that are of most concern to young people.

What will I do as part of the Youth Commission?

Share your views on policing and crime in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with the Police and Crime Commissioner and their staff.
Go out to events, schools and other venues to ask other young people what they think.
Create and deliver campaigns and projects that tackle the top issues you have identified – this could be creating a workshop, a social media campaign or a one off event or anything else that you think will help get your message out there.
Report at the end of the year on what you have achieved and the recommendations you want to put to the Police and Crime Commissioner for the future.

What will I get from being a youth commissioner?

Gain new skills and experience that will help with your CV or applications for college/university.
Meet and work with a variety of new people – including the Commissioner, Chief Constable, CPS and other professionals, and fellow Youth Commission members.
