Casino Bylaw Survey

In 2001, Strathcona County created a bylaw prohibiting casinos from operating in the County. This bylaw was created in response to a petition received from members of the community. Much has changed in our community over the last 20 years, and there is some interest in considering the possibility of allowing casinos.

On November 30, Council will be deciding whether to repeal this bylaw. The information gathered through this survey will be provided to Council to help them with their decision-making.

Repealing the bylaw means casinos would no longer be prohibited in Strathcona County. This would not result in the approval of any specific application to open a casino.

If the bylaw is repealed, there are additional development requirements that would involve public notification and a statutory public hearing before a casino could be built in Strathcona County.

Please answer the following two questions to let us know what you think about repealing the casino bylaw.

1. Do you think casinos should be prohibited in Strathcona County?
