Student Safety Survey 2021/22

Background Information

Following the murder of Sarah Everard in March 2021, the discussion about violence against women and girls (VAWG) has been brought to the forefront of public debate. What is understood is that it is a prominent issue that affects people every day, but there is limited data on sexual harassment and violence due to the extremely low levels of reporting to the police. As well as this, incidents of sexual violence are high amongst the student population.

We have developed this survey to help us understand the experiences of all students across Hampshire & Isle of Wight to build a better picture of the extent that sexual harassment and violence occurs. This will help us to work with universities and colleges to increase education and awareness of the issue and to provide any resources on where and how students can get support.

Whilst we know that sexual harassment and violence is predominantly experienced by women and girls, it can happen to anyone. This survey is therefore open for anyone of any gender to complete.
