Better Mental Health for Bassetlaw

Welcome

NHS Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the organisation that plans health care for the local area, is seeking the views of local people on the proposed changes to adult and older people’s inpatient mental health services.

What is happening?

The NHS and its partners across Bassetlaw are committed to improving mental health care for everyone so that it meets the needs of local people now and in the future.

Over the next three years, the plan is to transform Bassetlaw’s community mental health services. More investment will mean that better services are available locally - giving people quicker and easier access to the support they need.

But there is also a real need to improve the quality of mental health care when people need to be care for in hospital.  In particular, for adults and older people, change is needed to provide safe, effective and consistently high-quality care.

The proposals

The preferred solution is to move adult mental health services from ward B2 at Bassetlaw Hospital to a new dedicated at Sherwood Oaks in Mansfield, which would have two female and two male wards all with single en-suite rooms.

Older people’s mental health services and those living with dementia the preferred solution is to move these from ward B1 at Bassetlaw Hospital to a refurbished area of Millbrook in Mansfield. This would allow people with similar conditions to be treated in the same area, and every individual would have their own room with en-suite facilities.

The proposals focus on improving care and support for people with mental health needs – it is not about saving money. And the numbers of beds available to people with mental health needs will be the same – we will be able to care for them in the most appropriate place for their needs.
